Nottinghamians RFC are celebrating 40 years as an open club with a dinner-dance at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground on Saturday 12th March 2011 and a game between their President’s XV and an invitation side on 10th April.
As many seasoned ONs will know the club started out as ‘Old Nottinghamians’, a club for former pupils of Nottingham High School. The Midlands Four East (North) club have played at Adbolton Lane since the 1960s and the club’s ground, next to the National Water Sports Centre, is still owned by the Old Nottinghamians Society Sports and Social Club. Since going open in 1971, the club has been known simply as “Nottinghamians”, and it is no longer a requirement that members should be old boys of the High School. That said, former pupils and others with strong associations with the School are warmly welcomed as members.
Nottinghamians run two sides each week and an occasional vets XV and are led by lock Alex Cook, with former centre George Strachan as coach. According to Club President and long term member, Martin Wynne-Jones, the Club are in a team-rebuilding season but play open, running rugby.
Anyone interested in attending the dinner, watching the match or joining the club should contact the President Martin Wynne-Jones (email@example.com ) or Club Secretary, Phil Renshaw. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
